My name is Gherardo Mattia Mongardini and I was born in Italy in a small city near Rome.

I have been interested in Martial arts and Chinese culture since I was 16 years old. One day, I was introduced to Wong Shun Leung’s lineage of Wing Chun and I trained this style for about 6 months. After that period I got a chance to go and study in Hong Kong for 1 year at a school and live there with a local family who gave me my Chinese name, Chung Wai Lok.

I still found the idea of learning Wing Chun very attractive so I decided to look for a place where I could learn Wing Chun after school. The first Wing Chun school that I visited was in Yau Ma Tei under Grand Master Wan Kam Leung. I have never felt as excited as I did when I had the pleasure of meeting him in person and entering his school. After Sifu Wan Kam Leung’s introduction of himself and his style of Wing Chun I was sure that I had found the right Master and the right system.

I decided that this was what I wanted to dedicate my life to learning. Since that day I have continued training every day for 3 years, taking private lessons 5 days a week, and every week I have trained for around 40 hours. Last year I started taking private lessons in Qi Gong. Now I will help Sifu Wan Kam Leung teach Wing Chun at his Headquarters in Hong Kong until I go back to Italy in January 2009 and teach Wan Kam Leung Practical Wing Chun Kung Fu there.

I have appreciated the time that I have been able to spend with Sifu Wan Kam Leung, he has a great heart and he has always treated me well. I’m very thankful for his teaching; he has taught me how to behave in life and how to be a good person, so he is like a second father to me and I will follow and respect him for all of my life. Sifu Wan Kam Leung is a true Master of Wing Chun and Qi Gong. He is highly respected among Hong Kong people and around the world. I believe that his Wing Chun skills are beyond the compare of others’.
